Head to the Cobb Energy Centre for a Historic Performance of The Daughter of the Regiment
Come see the Atlanta Opera’s new production of The Daughter of the Regiment, a show full of romance, comedy, and vocal acrobatics that is making its debut at the Cobb Energy Centre! You won’t want to miss this hilarious and delightful Bel Canto opera in its first presentation in Atlanta since 1985.
The Daughter of the Regiment tells the story of Marie, an orphan found on a battlefield and adopted by an entire French regiment. As a young vivandière, she grows up with more than 1,500 "fathers." Years later, she falls in love with the handsome Tonio, a peasant who once saved her life. Just as their young love is blossoming, Marie is whisked away by a Marquise from her past who has news about her birth mother, and is intent on raising her amongst aristocracy. Through comedic twists and turns, the story brings Marie to a dramatic crossroads where she must decide to fall into place in upper-class society or to follow her heart, making this show a fun and heartfelt tale that everyone can enjoy.
Acclaimed director E. Loren Meeker leads this special production of Donizetti’s screwball comedy, with conductor Christopher Allen joining the performance for his debut with the Atlanta Opera. This opera series is full of monumental talent and promises to be an amazing show, so mark your calendar for The Daughter of the Regiment at the Cobb Energy Centre!
